I provide training and consulting services for clinicians, non-profit agencies and their staff members, schools, and some corporations as well. The following is descriptions of training offered, and I can also individualize training for your wellness days, professional development days, and so on. Training can be 1/2 day, full days or a more extensive consulting plan developed for your organization.
Trauma informed care:
“Trauma informed care” is the new mandate to receive funding for agencies. But what does it look like in practice? This training will help your staff members understand the basics and the differences between trauma informed, responsive, and trauma specific interventions for your school or non-profit agency. Through a combination of didactic training, role plays, and reflective exercises, this experience will enable your staff members to leave with concrete tools to embed trauma informed approaches into their daily practice, to be aware of how trauma and it’s effects can permeate a culture, and how to counter those effects with understanding and practice.
Creating a trauma informed and mindful classroom:
Teachers and professional helpers are in the field because they care, but sometimes the levels of pressure and stress they encounter get in the way of being able to function effectively as professionals. This workshop helps to define actions that teachers, program directors, clinicians, and other professional “helpers” can take in their daily self care practice as well as in their professional settings that can create a more mindful, thoughtful classroom or program experience for their clients as well as themselves. Research has shown that providers that meditate and have their own self care practice are more effective, engaged, consistently compassionate, and healthier. This workshop can stand on its own or be part of a larger initiative to transform your workplace.
Integrating latest information regarding stress management and neurobiology into your program development:
Stress management, resilience training, and healthy coping are topics that we care about to create a healthy program and organization but what does the newest research in neurobiology tell us about what can be the most impactful steps to take, now? This workshop reviews the latest research from varied fields of learning regarding healthy actions, and teaches at least five techniques that can be practiced daily on several levels of the organization, from client to board practices.
Introduction to sand tray therapy
This workshop introduces clinicians to the concept, theory, and beginning practice of sand tray therapy. It reviews the early theories and ideas, reviews exactly what you need to begin your own sand tray practice, and provides the clinician with their own experience of creating a tray in a safe, supported space.
Using sand tray therapy with children and teens
This two day workshop is the extension of the first introductory workshop. It continues where the introductory session left off, reviewing archetypes and the use of miniatures, varied approaches to sand tray therapy, my approach that I’ve developed after more than 20 years learning and practicing sand tray therapy, and the use of sand tray therapy within a broader play therapy model.
Using sand tray therapy with adults
This workshop explores the use of sand tray therapy with adults, with a special focus on the use of sand tray with dissociative symptoms, the use of miniatures separately to explore ego and feeling states, family systems, and to teach techniques using the miniatures as archetypes.
Stress management and resiliency: How to build practices into your workplace
This workshop can stand alone or be a series of groups for staff to teach and practice wellness techniques, informed by the SMART model, positive psychology, Dr. Rick Hansen’s work, as well as informed by my longer training in mindfulness, expressive therapies, and positive psychology.
